Appalachian Mountains on Vintage Handsaw
Acrylic on antique handsaw, 6x24”
The Subject
I love the Appalachian Mountains. Their peaks beckon to me with possibilities, and their mysterious valleys lead to who knows where. I wanted this painting to capture some of that magic, and this retired handsaw made the perfect panoramic “canvas.”
The Process
I painted from the background to the foreground, beginning with the sky, clouds, and so on. I started with broad swatches of color and gradually added refinements with a smaller brush. Once the paint was dry, I sealed my work with acrylic spray for protection.
Sometimes I feel like I paint more on the newspaper than I do the actual painting!
