Maple Pecan Baked Donuts

Recipe adapted from Nourished Endeavors.

How many: 6 donuts

Start to finish: 30 minutes

What you’ll need:

For the donuts:

  • donut pan (I used this one)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/4 cup buttermilk

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

For the glaze:

  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons milk (more if necessary)

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Additional:

  • chopped pecans for topping

What you’ll do:

For the donuts:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F. Generously grease a 6-count donut pan with cooking spray and set aside.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, stir together egg, buttermilk, melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup and vanilla extract.

  4. Mix wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  5. Transfer batter into a pastry bag or ziplock. Cut 1/2” off the tip of bag and pipe batter into prepared donut pan.

  6. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire cooling rack to cool completely.

For the glaze:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, use a wooden spoon mix together powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and melted butter. Stir until smooth. If necessary, add more milk until you reach the desired consistency.

  2. Individually dip each cooled maple donut into the maple glaze. If the glaze begins to thicken, reheat it in the microwave for 10 seconds. If you want, dip each donut again after the first glaze has set up. Immediately sprinkle with chopped pecans and enjoy!

Notes:

  • These donuts are best if eaten the same day they are made. However, you can freeze them in an airtight container - just let them sit on the counter to thaw before you eat them!
